A look back at Keystream’s 2022 achievements

2022 – what a year it’s been!

From awards to promotions, new offices to new clients and some milestone anniversaries, it’s been a year of change, transformation and growth at Keystream.

Here are some of our highlights.

Business Milestones

Expansion

August: New hires meant we more than doubled headcount in our government division. Both the local and central government teams have plans to expand further early next year.
September: We opened our first regional office in Newcastle to serve NHS clients across the region! Long serving Keystream Associate Director Heather Gordon has made a fantastic start, building a new team and partnering with key north east NHS Trusts.
November: Our Life Sciences division has seen huge growth over the past year. Manager Natalie has expanded her team to work with clients in the USA, a region that accounted for 48% of the global market in 2020.  We’re expecting great things in 2023!

Frameworks

As a framework approved recruitment partner, customers know we are a supplier they can trust. Each year we undergo rigorous audits to ensure consistent quality, transparent & fair pricing and social value contribution.

January: Keystream was awarded a place on the (local government resourcing partnership) LGRP framework for interim hiring for the first time!
July:  We passed audits for the Crown Commercial Supplier framework RM6160, held since 2014 and RM6229 covering contract and permanent hiring.
November: We retained our G-Cloud framework place for the sixth consecutive year – G-Cloud 13.

Recruitment delivery performance

Of course, the thing that matters most to our customers is our ability to deliver. For clients – excellent staff, on time, on budget through a hassle-free, seamless service. For job seekers – great oportunities and smooth administration.

In 2022, we have had our busiest, and most productive, year to date, supporting the NHS, public and private sectors as they recover post-covid.

  • 460 successful placements
  • Worked with over 100 clients
  • More than 30 brand new clients for this year
  • Increased turnover by an incredible 33%!

Team milestones

  • Best Employee Communications
  • Best Workplace Environment

March: Shortlisted and WON two awards run by our apprenticeships partner, Apprenticeship Connect

Team growth

This year, we have strengthened our leadership team as we look to expand in 2023 with an experienced Non-Executive Director, a Director for our Government division and a People Director

We’ve grown our team by 20% year on year, improving diversity in the process.

  • Women Directors – increased from 14% to 38%
  • Apprentices have doubled
  • Ethnic diversity – increased from 11% to 19%.

Long service and promotions

We’re proud of our culture, career progression and recognition – some of the reasons we have industry leading staff retention!

This year, we celebrated some major work anniversaries –  including five people with seven or more years of service.

And, we’ve promoted over 20% of our people across all functions including two to Associate Director.

Social Value

Team satisfaction surveys reveal giving back is really important to our teams and we have a history of enthusiastic charity support. After a team vote, Hestia was chosen as our 2022 Charity of the Year.

Our team activities raised over £3750 for Hestia and some of us also got to volunteer on their Big Day Out.

We partner with Ecologi, planting a tree for each placement and off-setting emissions generated. To date, we’ve planted 1800 trees and we have offset 13 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2022.

Social Events

Our much-valued Keystream culture reflects the camaraderie and support we have as a team. We take the opportunity to get together socially, both in our teams and as a whole business.

2022 has seen a welcome return to company socials and activities after the restrictions of covid.

Highlights included:

  • 3 year vision and team building at Tewkesbury in the Cotswolds where we competed in It’s a knockout, laser shooting and segways.
  • Team events – including escape rooms, cocktail making, shuffleboard and Flight Club
  • Christmas charity day
  • And finally, a triumphant return to the Keystream Christmas Party

An exciting 2023!

2023 promises to be bigger and better!

Investment will see headcount growth, new systems, infrastructure and marketing – all enabling our teams to focus on delivering exceptional customer service.

And, we’ll be bringing Keystream Analytics and Keystream Consulting closer, working to deliver an ‘all in one’ suite of services to customers.

“We are incredibly proud of what the team has achieved this year – from the ‘front line’ recruitment consultants to the ‘engine room’ business support teams. With the talent, enthusiasm and motivation of every person at Keystream, we are sure 2023 will be our best yet.

Thank you all, seasons greetings and a happy new year!”

Fail Fast, Serve Better: Why the Public Sector Needs a Hackathon Mindset

The electricity in the room was palpable. You could feel that surge of anticipation and excitement — the moment when your brain starts racing at 100 miles an hour and the ideas begin to spill out. We were only ten minutes into our first ever Keystream Hackathon, and already the ideas were coming so fast…

Who Owns the Roof Over Our Heads? And why it matters

Generation Alpha – the iPad-native, AI-normal, children of Millennials who think global videos, climate chat, and hand sanitiser are just… life.  They’re also the least likely generation to ever own their own home. As it stands many Millennial parents will not get to see their children own their own home.  That matters. As property ownership…

Pulling the Cord on Tech’s Culture of Silence

In aviation, every crash leads to an investigation. In tech, most failures disappear into silence. Why? After attending several events recently, one theme stood out: transparency, or the lack of it. Having supported digital and transformation leaders for over a decade, I’m struck by how often the same issues resurface. Lessons aren’t learned, and problems…

Tuition Fees, Talent, and Quality: The Real Challenge for UK Universities

The government’s recent announcement allowing universities in England to raise tuition fees in line with inflation has made headlines across the sector. While this move may provide welcome financial relief, the bigger challenge for universities isn’t tuition – it’s people. Universities simply cannot meet quality standards without the right teams in place. IT, digital, and…

Beyond the Tools – Making Digital Transformation Work for the NHS

I’ve seen the NHS’s digital transformation from all angles….as a patient, working on the frontline and in the programme room. I’ve felt the frustration of handwritten notes, siloed systems, and digital tools that promised productivity but rarely delivered. But I’ve also seen the difference when technology truly works, when it empowers rather than overwhelms, when it simplifies rather than complicates, and when it supports…

The Traitors Within: Tackling Hidden Inefficiencies in NHS Waiting List Management

As The Traitors returns to our screens tonight (highly recommend if you haven’t seen it), it’s a good reminder that not every challenge is visible at first glance – especially in healthcare. Just like in the show, NHS teams are working together towards a shared goal, but sometimes unseen forces quietly work against progress.  In…

From Perfectly Choreographed Groceries to Well-Orchestrated Public Services: What We Learned from a Leading UK Supermarket

As part of our work exploring how operational design principles translate across sectors, we recently visited one of the UK’s leading supermarket micro-fulfilment centres (MFC). We were curious to see how one of the country’s most complex logistics operations balances automation, efficiency and human input to meet high-volume demand. On the surface, it seems far…

NHS Group Structures: Navigating the Shift

Across the NHS, a clear pattern is emerging: the rise of the group structure. Some trusts were early adopters, but we’re now seeing more organisations coming together, whether by uniting corporate functions or pursuing a full merger. This shift is being driven by real pressures: financial constraints, workforce shortages, duplicated services, and the ongoing drive…

AI, Communities and a Fit-for-Future Public Sector

Navigating a New Vision for Health and Local Services The government’s 10-Year Plan for the NHS lays out a bold vision of a “fit for the future” health service, with three major shifts: care closer to home, digital-first services, and a focus on prevention. It is a plan to reimagine how care is delivered by…

How Higher Education’s Challenges Are Reshaping Tech and Digital Teams

The UK higher education sector is at a crossroads. Once known for stability and long-term thinking, universities are now navigating uncertainty on every front, from squeezed budgets and changing student demographics to rising expectations for digital-first services. As someone who has spent the past six years recruiting into this space, I have seen how these…
